Item Code: M26042

Model 1839 Civil War complete carbine sling.  A standard issue item for mounted troopers, the adjustable belt of black bridle leather is 2 3/8” wide and worn over the shoulder, with the swivel hook attached to the saddle ring of the cavalry carbine.  Once dismounted, either intentionally or fallen from a disabled horse, the trooper’s carbine was immediately at hand for battle.

This particular example was manufactured in Newark, NJ; manufacturer’s stamp is located adjacent to the bat wing.  The swivel components are in fine condition with a bright patina.  The spring is fully functional.  Brass frame buckle and bat wing have a medium patina and are also in fine condition with all rivets present.  Stitching is fully intact; underside of belt leather is smooth.  Exterior side exhibits flaking, with more significant flaking in 2-3” segments in close proximity to the swivel and frame buckles.  [JC]
