Complete black bridle leather belt and frog, with brass buckle and slides--black leather bayonet scabbard with brass throat & tip. Belt measures 36" in length, 2.25" in width. Each half of the two-piece brass rifleman’s buckle is in good condition and firmly attached to the belt. Each of the two thin straps that hold the buckle halves in place are complete, unbroken, and firmly stitched to the belt. The frog is complete and firmly stitched to the belt. The small brass buckle and strap are complete and unbroken. Belt, frog and scabbard leather are soft, supple and in excellent condition with tight, excellent stitching. All belt and scabbard brass furniture [buckles, keepers, throat, tip] display a consistent mellow yellow patina.
Model 1855 bayonet "US" stamp on reverse, near the cross guard, is crisp. Blade is bright and clean. Bright ribbed brass handle, with inspectors initials "JB" on the flatted top side near the locking hole. Exhibits light scratching and minor dings. Else VG, with functioning release button. In all, an exceptional rifleman's belt and bayonet ensemble. A superb collectible. [jet]
