This Federal belt and buckle is of the 1839 pattern. The buckle or “belt plate” has a die-struck sheet brass face with a clear “US”. Face shows some green-blue verdigris on lower left portion otherwise clean. Lead filled back retains all of original lead fill. No maker’s mark. This is the style with “puppy-paw” hooks; all hooks remain.
The bridle leather belt is 45” long x 2” wide. Leather is dirty and slightly stiff but otherwise good. [jet]
