The belt is made of white buff leather and has been dyed black on the outside. Attached to one end is the brass keeper while the other has a very nice Pattern 1839 oval “US” plate. In the area of the keeper the belt is stamped with a sub-inspector’s mark and a maker’s mark of “S. H. YOUNG, NEWARK, N. J.” The face of the plate is clean and smooth with a light patina. The reverse has both arrow hooks and tongue, also 100% of the lead fill is present.

Very nice clean example of an enlistedman’s belt.  [ad]
