This Pattern 1861 .58 cal. cartridge box shows the effects of many years of storage in an attic. The leather is dry and dirty. The brass US belt plate and brass eagle breast plate have been untouched and are secured by original leather. The maker's mark on the inner cover flap reads "CARCELON & COVELL / 1863 / LEWISTON, ME." It features a wartime modification of a turned up cover to expedite access to cartridge tins. The seams are in excellent condition. The back has sling and belt loops intact. The latch tab is in good condition. The finial is ball shaped. Both roller buckles are present. Sling has some leather loss but is in sturdy condition.
