The leather on this box is in good shape. The color is a little lighter than normal and the box does show some light signs of use.
Lower right corner of outer flap is marked “J. DAVY CO.” Latch tab is worn but solid and is attached to the underside of the flap by a single line of stitching.
Interior of the box has both leather dividers. Finial is present at bottom and all seams are closed tight.
The reverse is also in good condition and has both belt loops.
The Joseph Davy Company of Newark, New Jersey had four government contracts in September of 1863 for cavalry accouterments including pistol boxes.
