Standard US pattern cap pouch. The outer flap has a nice smooth surface with a strong inspector’s mark in an oval that reads, “R. WHITE / U.S. ORD. DEPT. / SUB INSPECTOR”. The inner flap has the maker’s name “S. H. YOUNG / & CO / NEWARK / N.J.” S.H. Young is listed as a saddler in 1852/53; had a contract in Feb. 1865 for 10,000 sets for infantry, including cap pouches and slings.
Inner flap very crisp; minor crease to finish. The interior fleece is in mint condition. Needs only a vent pick. Both belt loops intact, perfect condition. Sub-inspector letter “R” between belt loops. Only a little scuffing to leather tab around hole, otherwise in perfect untouched condition.
