The leather on this box is in good condition. The outer flap has a readable inspectors stamp in the lower right corner and “US” at lower left. Just below the latch tab stitching is a readable maker’s mark in two lines “J. DAVEY & CO. / NEWARK-N.J.” The latch tap shows some surface finish loss but it is otherwise solid.
The interior of the box is in good condition showing light wear and surface dirt. The bottom of the box has a brass pear-shaped finial.
The reverse of the box has both belt loops one of which has some surface finish loss. There is a small sunburst stamped alongside each belt loop and on each end of the box. [AD]
