Pattern 1864 US cartridge box in good condition. The outer flap is faintly embossed “US”. The latch-tab is stitched and riveted. The inner flap has the sub-inspector’s stamp and maker’s stamp “R. NECE” and retains both ears. The implement pouch is complete. The bottom of the box features the typical brass finial and both roller buckles. The belt and sling loops are on back. Both tins remain. The sling is complete and unbroken and remains nicely buckled into the bottom of the box.
This entire box exhibits wear from use and age. Surface finish exhibits cracking overall with minor loss of finish on implement pouch flap and tab. Stitching is good and tight in all places. The sling is supple and strong but has lost most of its finish. Overall, this cartridge box and sling are nice and solid. [jet]
