US PATTERN 1864 INFANTRY CARTRIDGE BOX

$235.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 286-266

Pattern 1864 US cartridge box in very good to unissued condition. The outer flap is boldly embossed “US” and has an oval sub inspector’s stamp on the lower, right corner “G.T. WOODBURY”. Three very small holes have been drilled through the “US”. The latch-tab is stitched and riveted and is the only part of the box to show real wear and cracking to the surface finish. The inner flap has a maker’s stamp “W.H. WILKINSON” and retains both ears. The implement pouch is complete. The bottom of the box features the typical brass finial and both roller buckles. The belt and sling loops on the back show no signs of wear. There are no tins.

This entire box exhibits minimal wear with only minor rubs on the corners and edges. Stitching is tight in all places. The three holes through the “US” were possibly for the attachment wires found on national guard insignias. Overall, this cartridge box is in very nice and super solid condition. [jet]
