The leather on this box is in good condition. The outer flap has some crazing with a faint inspectors stamp and “US” just above the latch tab stitching. There are some signs of a makers mark on the bottom edge of the flap but it is not readable. The latch tab shows some surface wear overall but it is solid. The interior of the box is in nice condition showing light wear and some verdigris around the rivet heads. The bottom of the box has a brass pear-shaped finial. The reverse of the box has both belt loops that both show light residue of a leather restorer. This can easily be rubbed off. One of which has a crack in the finish. There is a small asterisk stamped alongside each belt loop. The leather on the reverse shows a little bit more wear than the rest of the box.  [ad]
