Leather box to hold cartridges for a cavalry soldier. Outer flap has light to moderate crazing and lower left corner has a 1” tear. Unreadable Inspector’s stamp is present on lower right corner. The latch tab is present but end has broken off. The interior of the box is in nice condition showing light wear. Inner flap retains both ears. Stitching has come loose on left ear. Maker’s mark near center reads, “WILKINSON”. Implement pocket flap with stitched tab and loop are present and in very good condition. The bottom of the box has a brass pear-shaped finial and two roller buckles. Stitching on bottom left has come loose. The reverse of the box has both belt loops and sling strap which are riveted and sewn. The leather on the reverse shows lighter wear. Body of box measures 3 ½” x 7 ½”. [sm]
