REGULATION 1861 CARTRIDGE BOX WITH PLATE – POSSIBLE SOUTHERN USE

$225.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 980-163

This cartridge box is an example of the "Pattern 1861” infantry cartridge box. Outer flap exhibits heavy use and surface crazing. Lower corners of outer flap have been worn or cut away.  Oval “US” box plate is secured to the face of the box upside down with original thin leather thong. Cartridge box plate shows nice, dark patina. Closing tab is broken at the hole.  Tab is sewn to the underside of the flap. The inner flap is unmarked and is nice condition. This inner flap retains both “ears” that remain tightly attached. The initials “J H” are carved onto this flap. There are no cartridge tins in the box.  The implement pouch is present and the leather is also in very good condition although the flap has been removed. The stitching on the body of the box is tight and unbroken.  Belt straps are sewn and riveted.  Brass finial on the bottom.  Iron roller buckles are both gone. A lone initial “F” is carved into the back of the box.   [jet]
