REGULATION 1861 CARTRIDGE BOX AND SLING WITH PLATES

$795.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1000-570

This cartridge box is an example of the "Pattern 1861” infantry cartridge box with shoulder sling. Outer flap exhibits some finish loss and significant crazing. Oval “US” box plate is secured to the face of the box. Closing tab is complete and unbroken but shows significant wear. Tab is sewn to the underside of the flap. The inner flap is unmarked and is very nice condition. This flap covers two cartridge tins that remain. This inner flap retains both “ears” although they are loose. The implement pouch is present and also in very good condition. The stitching on the body of the box is tight and unbroken.  Both sides of the cartridge box are stamped, “C.S. STORMS / MAKER N.Y.” Belt straps are sewn and riveted.  Brass finial on the bottom.  Iron buckles were sewn only; both remain tightly attached.

Box measures approximately 7” x 1 ¾” x 5” (for the .58 cal. elongated ball). The two tin inserts held musket cartridges.  A 1 ¾” wide shoulder belt, ornamented with a brass eagle breast plate, is attached through belt loops and buckled to bottom of box.  The strap is unbroken. Heavy wear on edges.

The brass cartridge box plate and eagle shoulder belt plate are in good condition and appear original to the piece.  Both show nice age patina.

This is a complete infantry cartridge box with sling and both accoutrement plates.   [jet]
