Cavalry troopers were loaded with gear: cartridge boxes, cap boxes, holster, as well as the firearms themselves and a saber for good measure. This is about as mint an example the carbine cartridge box as you are likely to find. The exterior has just minor wrinkles from flexing and there is a small abrasion at lower right, otherwise the finish is perfect. The inner flap has a few more wrinkles and crazing, but it is still excellent-plus and has a vivid Hoover and Calhoun maker’s stamp. A little verdigris from the reverse of the outer flap copper rivet will clean off easily. The twenty-round wood block is in place. The implement pouch, flap and latch are there too, with just a tad of wear along the bottom edge of the implement pouch.
The box has its waist-belt and crossbelt loops in place and still retains the black japanned sling buckles on the bottom. The latch tab is full length, with no breaks, and is secured by a rivet and half-moon stitching.
This is a regulation issue piece of cavalry gear in impressive condition that would dress up any cavalry or carbine display. [sr]

This sword was probably sold by Schuyler, Hartley & Graham of New York. The pattern is pictured in their 1864 catalogue in figures 13 and 16. Rather than have a standard blade, the lightly curved 32 inch blade has "B.K." (Battery K) on the left… (870-447). Learn More »
