CIVIL WAR CAP BOX MADE BY HAEDRICH

Item Code: M25982

Henry G. Haedrich of Philadelphia had U.S. army contracts for well over 50,000 sets of infantry accoutrements from 1862 to 1865. This is a nice, clean example of his work, clearly marked on the inner flap, with good finish to the black leather, showing just some wrinkles from flexing, and with belt loops and side-ears in place. The wool fleece inside, meant to keep the percussion caps from bouncing out, long ago fell victim to moths, but the flesh strip sewn inside is there. Some verdigris on the belt loops rivets should be cleaned off, otherwise this is a good example of an essential soldier’s accouterment by a well-known maker.  [sr]
