LATE WAR MAKER MARKED PERCUSSION CAP BOX, WITHOUT INNER FLAP

$195.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 172-2847

The leather on this box is in nice used condition. The wear patterns on this box are consistent with use. The outer flap has some small amounts of surface finish loss from rubbing and use. There is a faint sub-inspectors stamp just above the latch. Each edge has a short line of stitching that holds both of the ears on the underside of the flap in place. Upon opening the box there is no inner flap. These boxes were made that way purposely and are a mate for the Pattern 1864 cartridge box that was also made without an inner flap. This was only done for a short time. The inside of the box has all its lamb’s wool and a nipple pick. The body and back of the box are very nice and match the outer flap in wear. Both belt loops are present and in good shape. Stamped between the belt loops is a light maker’s stamp that reads “WILKINSON, MAKER, SPRING’LD, MASS.”
