Hard to find, this is a non-regulation leather holster made to accommodate a Spiller and Burr revolver.

The holster measures about 11” along the front edge. Holster is made from one piece of redish-brown leather. The closure tab is an extension of the flap. Holster has a 2 ¼” wide belt loop on the reverse and is still strongly stitched in place. Loop is strong, but stiff. Holster has an open muzzle end. There is a small leather gusset sewn in to accommodate the trigger guard.

Leather has a wrinkled appearance but is in very good condition. All stitching remains strong.

This came out of a collection and had a Spiller and Burr revolver in it at that time.

There is a name lightly carved into the flap that is difficult to discern. A tag from the previous collector claims it is from James Johnson of the 9th Va. cavalry.

This is a typical, non-regulation flap holster of the Civil War.  [jet]
