RARE MILITARY HOLSTER FOR A COLT POCKET REVOLVER

$395.00 SOLD

Item Code: 1043-92

This is a rare military style holster for a Colt pocket revolver. This follows the standard military configuration of holding the pistol butt-forward on the wearer’s right side and has the full flap with sewn latch tab seen on the regulation issue holsters for .36 and .44 caliber arms. Colt pocket revolvers, being of smaller caliber and lighter weight, were favorite sidearms for officers and this is clearly a privately purchased holster for military use. About the only unusual element is that it uses only two rivets on the reverse, which makes sense given the weight of the gun, and that the rivets are tinned, an innovation tried only briefly on issue accoutrements.

The leather has never had any polish, dressing or preservative applied. The finish is good, but shows some crackling and wear and abrasions to the edges and high spots. Latch tab and toe plug are securely in place. A second hole was added to the latch tab at some point. The holster is very solid and is a very scarce variant.  [SR]
