MINTY COLT ARMY HOLSTER

This minty holster is a non-regulation military style for the Colt Army revolver. Meadows (1987) pictures a nice parallel on page 68 (and for a pocket model on page 72.) The belt loop is a single rectangular loop sewn to the reverse. The seams are tight and the toe plug is in place. The finish is excellent with just a few small scratches that could be disguised, and very minor flexing to the latch tab. Sometimes referred to by collectors as the English style, the tab is secured on the reverse of the holster and loops around the holster at the location of the rear of the pistol’s triggerguard to fasten over a brass stud mounted on the flap. The holster is configured to hold the revolver vertically with the butt-forward. (The first reference in Meadows above has some unfortunate commentary on holsters holding the pistol butt-forward as being intended for a left handed draw by a cavalryman, apparently forgetting the necessity of holding the reins, as well as instructions in military manuals.) This and other non-regulation styles of holster were commercially supplied to officers and soldiers and seem sometimes to have come through state issues. This would be an exceptionally nice addition to a Colt revolver, especially as part of a cavalry officer’s grouping. [sr]
