The “slim Jim” holster was a popular holster in the early west for percussion revolvers, being closely contoured to the revolver and with an open top that permitted it to be quickly drawn. Interestingly, there was a proposal in the early 1890s to use a version as the regulation holster, so some military men favored it as well. This is a very good example in black leather, configured to carry the pistol butt forward. A single belt loop of medium width is stitched on the reverse and positioned to carry the pistol vertically on the belt, not angled. A lightly tooled double line borders the upper edge. Otherwise the holster is plain and functional. There is the usual small crazing to the finish from age, but there is no substantial finish loss, the color is very good, the stitching is tight, the toe plug in place and the holster is solid. This would make quite an addition to a western collection that would display great with the correct pistol, a period vest and, maybe, a deck of cards.  [sr]
