1912 DISMOUNTED HOLSTER FOR THE 1911 COLT AUTOMATIC

$450.00 SOLD

Item Code: 864-09

Since the 1911 Colt was intended to be a cavalry sidearm, the holster for it was designed with a swivel. Some services that were also issued the pistol, however, were dissatisfied with the attachment system. The Signal Corps, for instance, requested the holster, “without swivel and leg strap.” The result was the Model 1912 dismounted holster that omitted those two elements, but still held the pistol very low with an extended billet or “long drop” hanger.

This one has a very good deep brown, russet finish that shows just a few minor scuffs and small wrinkling from flexing of the flap and billet, but no surface losses. The pistol rest inside is sewn to the body of the holster and in place. The two brass eyelets for drainage and a leg thong are both there, as is the leg thong itself. Like most of this pattern, the holster appears unmarked, but there is a small spot on the back of the billet that might have a light marking somewhat rubbed from wear against a soldier’s hip. The billet and wire belt hook are very good. The upper finial, for holding open the flap, is also in place.

This is a nice example of a regulation US army holster dating 1912-1916, but worn in service for some time thereafter, including the Mexican border campaign and World War I.  [sr]
