This is a very good example of the regulation holster for the 1911 Colt Automatic. This holster was introduced before World War One when the pistol was still considered a cavalry arm and underwent a number of changes over the years, mainly to better adapt it to dismounted use. This is a very nice WW2 example, dated 1944 on the reverse and maker marked by the Milwaukee Saddlery Company. Constructed of russet leather, the holster has excellent color, tight stitching and a well defined “U.S.” in an oval on the outer flap. The tie-down strap and wire belt loop are present. The cover shows a few shallow wrinkles from flexing, a few rubs along the edges from wear and minor stains, but is very solid and displays extremely well. The rivets show some verdigris on their bases that can be cleaned off. The interior shows some rubs that indicate it was used and carried a pistol. It also has a good mid-war date. [sr]
