This Civil War leather accoutrement is a very good specimen of a Confederate made revolver belt holster as worn by many officers and mounted troops. Considered part of the equipment of southern cavalry, this 15" long revolver holster with outer flap was machine produced and appears to fit the pattern and configuration for large caliber percussion sidearms, namely a 44 caliber size Colt or a similar sized weapon.

A classic example, it bears no maker's mark and is ruggedly constructed of black bridle leather in very good condition overall. The leather artifact has three major components; main body, bottom plug and closure loop. Body is cut from a single, large piece of thick leather that is folded over and machined stitched together to form the pocket. The outer flap and long closure tab are integral to the one-piece body. Tab is strong but supple with not rips or tears. Original stitching is strong and tight. Holster is missing its bottom plug. Entire exterior leather surface is well used but strong with moderate to heavy surface crazing and minor cracking. Piece exhibits some edge scuffing with scattered tiny areas of thinning. Stitched to the backside of holster is a sturdy black bridle leather belt loop that measures 3½" long x 1¾" wide. This well constructed, Confederate-made leather accoutrement is in very good condition overall. If one seeks an original CS holster accoutrement, this one would make a great addition to any Confederate display.
