This is the leather scabbard for the Model 1855 socket bayonet for Springfield rifle muskets. Excellent, unissued condition black bridle leather scabbard with buff leather belt frog. The leather body is in great condition with a good tight seam running up the back with only a few very small rubs or flecks of finish loss. Brass scabbard tip attached with four tacks and is tight. Arched buff leather frog is likewise in wonderful condition. The frog has seven rivets and is attached to the scabbard by stitching and an additional rivet. All leather is in very good condition. Frog is stamped with a “Newark / N.J.” maker’s mark as well as an oval sub-inspector’s stamp. These stamps are as visible as they can be on the rough surface of the buff leather.  Overall, a mint and unissued scabbard.  Scabbard ONLY, no bayonet.   [jet]
