In comparative size this spur is rather small. It. meas. approx. 4.50 inches long from rowel to yoke tip. The unique feature of this spur is that the two sides of the yoke fold toward the center for easier storage. Each arm of the yoke has two small spikes on the inside for grabbing onto a boot. The arm goes straight back with a small rowel at the outside end. The inside end of the arm has a spike similar to those on the yoke. This single example is in good shape. Both arms move well. Metal surfaces have a light patina from age. This exact style spur is pictured in the 1864 catalog of the well known military goods dealers “Schuyler, Hartley & Graham” of New York City.
