Item Code: 742-36

This simple ivory silk taffeta dress, entirely hand-sewn, was likely worn by a young lady in her teens.  The darted bodice is constructed with front and back yokes, and has a V neckline trimmed with a frill of Chantilly lace.  The bodice is lined with glazed cotton and closes in the center back with hooks-and-eyes.  Short sleeves are trimmed with three narrow rows of ivory silk ribbon. Piecing was used extensively during the original construction of the bodice to conserve fabric.  The skirt was originally gauged and is fully lined in lightweight glazed cotton.  The bodice and skirt have been altered several times since the original construction. The dress could be restored to its original configuration.
