Triangular pelerine fur collar with quilted silk lining measures 8½" deep at center back and center front. Four thread covered buttons at the front.  Twisted cords are attached to the upper pair of buttons, pass through a thread-covered slide, and end with elaborate twisted cord tassel.  A cord loop fastens the lower pair of buttons.

Muff measures 10" wide and 7½” in diameter.  Muff is wadded with wool batting and has a silk lining. Twisted cords with elaborate tassels like those on the collar are attached to either end of the muff.

The collar and muff were sold by W.M. Shute & Son, 173 and 175 Washington Street, Boston, MA. When the lid is removed from the top of the box, one side of the box drops down to show a shelf for the collar and a fitted circular compartment for the muff. The black box is lined with ivory paper, and gilded paper accents the circular opening for the muff.  The words “Mrs Perley, Topsfield” are written in pencil on the bottom of the box.
