Mid-19th century women wore jackets like these while styling their hair or completing their toilette. They could also be worn with a matching skirt for dishabille attire at home. This jacket has a round neckline with small standing collar, narrow open sleeves, and curved seams for shaping in the back. The front closes with eight mother-of-pearl buttons and buttonholes. Fine whitework edging finishes the lower edge of the sleeves and the bottom of the jacket.
