Victorian era box meant for holding gentleman’s collars features a gutta percha lid and stained wooden bottom. Hinged lid shows a scrollwork border with an image of a stag in the forest. Original clasp is present, but peg to hook clasp to is missing. Inside a new linen collar remains. Collar is stamped, “E & W CLUETT, PEABODY & CO. INC.”. No markings are present on box.

Box measures 4 ¾” square by 3 ¼” tall. . Wood shows very light surface scratches or scuffs.

This would be a splendid and functional item for a gentleman of today, just as it was in the 19th century.  [sl]
