Victorian era box meant for holding gentleman’s collars features a gutta percha lid and stained wooden bottom. Hinged lid shows a scrollwork border with a cartouche label in the center. Original clasp is present, but peg to hook clasp to is missing. Inside of box lid is lined in painted paper. Small label on front reads, “17”. Front side of box is stamped, “WARD’S”.
Box measures 4 ¾” square by 3 ¼” tall. Wood shows very light surface scratches or scuffs. Hinges are a little loose, but are still attached.
This would be a splendid and functional item for a gentleman of today, just as it was in the 19th century. [sl]
