Folding cup is in excellent condition. Measures 3” tall when opened x 2 ½” in diameter. Measures ¾” when collapsed. Patent date on top edge reads, “MAY 3, 1851”.

Charles Goodyear’s discovery of the vulcanization of rubber—a process that allows rubber to withstand heat and cold—revolutionized the rubber industry in the mid-1800’s, making products like this possible, and popular with the armies during the Civil War. [SM]
