This mid-nineteenth century artifact that is a very fine coin-silver 'butter knife' utensil in very fine condition. Produced by the firm of H.C.P. of Newark, NJ, the butter knife is a fine quality, silver utensil that is 7¼" long. The silver knife features a large clip point 3¼" long blade that is perpendicular to the handle stem. Flat handle features a finely engraved set of initials "E L T" done in English script surrounded by a highly ornate shield device upon a finely stippled background. Start of blade bears a simple engraved floral pattern. Backside of handle displays a very thin line of tooling along the outer edge. Center area is marked with the maker and reads "H.C.P. NEWARK NJ". A wonderful, pleasing silver sheen is on the exterior surface of this silver butter knife. A very fine silver specimen.
