This can meas. approx. 5.00 inches tall and 4.25 inches wide. Top has small circular opening that meas. approx. 2.00 inches across. Exposed tin has some light discoloration and light surface rust. White paper label with colored lithograph of a tomato on the vine. Across the top is “FRESH TOMATOES PUT UP ESPRESSLY FOR” and along the bottom is “SELSER & BROTHER, NO. 30 NORTH WHARVES, PHILADELPHIA.” All lettering is approx. 0.25 inch to 0.75 of an inch high. Back of label is plain white. Label is heavily water stained with some discoloration. There is only one or two very small chips missing from the label. The seam where the label joins has come loose but is all there. The can itself is slightly dented at lower front.
This type of can is often dug in Civil War camps and is seldom encountered with the label intact.
