This can meas. approx. 5.00 inches tall and 4.00 inches wide. Top has small circular opening that meas. approx. 2.00 inches across. Exposed tin has some light discoloration and light surface rust. Nice red paper label on front with typical 19th Century lettering and decoration. Letter size varies from 0.25 inch to 0.50 inch high and reads “HERMETICALLY SEALED FRESH TOMATOES. PREPARED BY BOGLE & LYLES, NEW YORK.” Back of label is white and lists the name of the company again and all the other products they make. Label goes completely around the can. It has light to moderate dirt on the surface. Overall there is approx. 20% paper loss. This is mostly on the back. This type of can is often dug in Civil War camps and is seldom encountered with the label intact.
