Very nice and delicately done carved bone ring. Carved on the face is “MS 9 INF” very neatly filled in with blue ink or paint. Each shoulder of the ring has a US shield done in red ink or paint. The ring is in very nice, bright, clean condition.

The 9th Massachusetts served with the Army of the Potomac in the 3rd and 5th Corps, most of their time being spent in the latter. They saw action at in almost every engagement from the Peninsula in 1862 to Petersburg in 1864. During its service the regiment lost 673 men killed’ wounded, captured or missing out of 1709 who served in its ranks. This number does not include those who died of disease.
