Ring is carved from animal bone. It has an inside measurement of ¾”. The face measures 7/8” across and has a floral design carved into it. Ring is approx. a size 9. During the Civil War, soldiers and sailors would carve items from animal bones. It was especially popular with prisoners as a way to pass the time. They would carve items such as spoons, rings, neckerchief slides, dice, dominos and other trinkets. [sm]
