Carved bone ring has a flat front with initials, “J*M” in black surrounded by a red border.

Measures 7/8” in circumference - approximate size 8.

During the Civil War, soldiers and sailors would carve items from animal bones. It was especially popular with prisoners as a way to pass the time. They would carve items such as spoons, rings, neckerchief slides, dice, dominos and other trinkets.  [sm]
