VICTORIAN LOVE TOKEN - “NELLIE”

$65.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 998-607

Love tokens were a craze, especially among young girls, during the Victorian era. They were coins that were smoothed flat on one or both sides and then hand engraved with the name or initials of the giver. These were meant to be sentimental keepsakes and remembrances from the giver to recipient. Tokens were given by a beau to a girl, and also by friends and family members. All denominations of coins were used, with the seated Liberty dime being the most popular.

This silver token is a quarter. It features the name, “Nellie” surrounded by a wreath of leaves on the face. Reverse has seated Lady Liberty and is dated 1853. Original pin and clasp remain intact.

This is a great memento from the Victorian era.   [sl]
