Gold plated pocket watch style locket with plain stem and ring. Locket meas. approx. 1.50 inches across.

Each face of the locket has a geometric decoration consisting of a floral and vine background with smooth faced squares, circles and arcs intertwined. Inside one of the smooth squares on the face is inscribed “TO MY WIFE C. A. A. FROM R. A.” At center of the reverse lid is a bird with a sprig of laurel in its beak.

Opening the locket shows one side has a tintype of a Federal private wearing a dark frock coat with gilt buttons and a Pattern 1851 sword belt plate also touched with gilt. Image has good contrast and clarity. Edges have some discoloration but nothing serious. The opposite lid is empty.
