Hinged pewter box has an engraved filigree design on top and bottom. Top has image of two eagles flanking an urn. Front side of box has engraving that reads, “PRESENTED TO R. MILLER BY HIS BROTHER GEORGE MILLER, ELLENVILLE, AUGUST 16, 1859”.
Box measures 3 ¼’ x 2”. Pewter has darkened with age. Shows a few scattered small dents and scratches.
The only Ellenville to appear in an online search is located in Ulster County, NY. According to findagrave.com, buried in Old Ellenville Cemetery is a George H. Miller, date of birth unknown, death date 1921; and also a Robert Miller, date of birth unknown, death date 1931. Could these be the brothers? Further research is certainly a possibility. [sl/ld]
