Match safes were very popular with both soldiers and civilians. This safe features a cartouche label ready to be monogrammed with the owner’s initials. Top side has a hinged lid. Lid has a rough texture for striking matches. Reverse is marked, “SMITHS PATENT JAN. 17, 1860”. Very good condition. Brass has spotted and darkened with age.  [sl]
