Oval image on 6 ½” x 8 ½” mount. Excellent condition. 2/3 length standing wearing 9 button frock coat, officer’s sash, belt with rectangular buckle, and sword. Holds hat in one hand with clearly visible infantry hunting horn insignia with numbers “91” at center. Front photographer’s imprint: James Cremer & Co., Philadelphia. Typed biographical info attached on reverse.

John D. Lentz was a resident of Philadelphia when he enlisted on 9/9/61 as a Captain. Commissioned into Co. E, 91^st PA. Promoted to Major on 12/20/62 and to Lt. Colonel (not mustered) on 7/12/64. Discharged by Special Order on 9/28/64. Lentz returned to Philadelphia and died there in August 1900.  He is buried in Lafayette Cemetery (the interments in this cemetery were removed to Evergreen Memorial Park, Bensalem, Pennsylvania, now known as Rosedale Memorial Park.).
