Image shows a group of 17 men and 1 boy seated together in an open field on the edge of a wood eating their lunch. Several of the men have plates visible in their laps or on the grass in front of them. Also scattered at one end of the photo are several baskets. Some of the men wear hats and coats and some are just wearing their vests. The young boy is dressed in a sailor’s suit complete with flat hat and shoulder aiguillette. Of interest is one of the men at center holds what appears to be an early baseball bat. The item is made of wood, it is round, and has a knob on the slender end and fattens along its length. Also, counting the boy, they have enough for two baseball teams.

Image appears to date from the 1880’s or 90’s. The contrast is a little light in areas but all details are visible. The image comes housed in a wonderful Victorian wood frame with a marbled decoration and a gold interior border. Framed the item is 14.00 x 12.25 x 2.50 inches deep.  [ad]
