Most of the images in this album are related to Bedford, Pennsylvania. Altogether there are 42 images in total. Most are from the Civil War period but there are few that are later. Three of the images show men in various forms of Masonic dress wearing either aprons, shawls or both. In one image a man carries a shepherds crook. Many of the images are named and back marked.

Among the civilian views are five soldiers in uniform. They are as follows:

1.)   Full standing image of a young soldier in a dark shell jacket and trousers. Back mark is T. R. GETTYS, BEDFORD, PA. No ID.

2.)   Full standing image of a soldier in a dark frock coat, vest and trousers holding a forage cap in his hand. Back mark is R. NEWELL… PHILADELPHIA. Soldier is ID on album page as Joseph May. There were two in the 55th Pa. One in Company D and one in Company K.

3.)   Full standing view of a soldier wearing a dark shell jacket, vest and trousers. Back mark is T. R. GETTYS, BEDFORD, PA. Soldier is ID on album page as Philip Leonard of Company D, 55th Pa.

4.)   Full standing view of a soldier wearing a four button sack coat, light trousers and a forage cap. Back mark is KERN & GAUGLER, SELINSGROVE, PA. Soldier is ID on the album page as Scott Leonard. Though the soldier listed above did have a brother named Scott no listing for him as a soldier can be found.

5.)   Full standing view of a soldier wearing a dark frock coat, vest and trousers with a slouch hat on a table next to him. Handwritten back mark reads PHOTOGRAPHED BY LE RUE LEMER HARR’G PA. 1864. Soldier ID on album page as Ed Monroe of Company D, 55th Pa.

Also in the album are three photos in civilian clothes of Joseph Haley who served in Company E, of the 55th Pa. One image shows him wearing a Masonic apron, another is a bust view and another shows him with two friends. Though they are civilian images they all look to date from around the time of the war.

All the images listed are in good condition from having been housed in the album. The album itself is broken into three sections and has some torn pages. The covers are the usual leather covered boards. Only one of the brass closures are present. The inside title page is inscribed in period ink “MRS. B. R. MIDDLETON, BEDFORD.
