CDV album has brown leather cover with gold embossed design on the front and back. All four corners on both front and back have a decorative white bead. Leather is in good condition, with some wear all over, but especially on the spine, edges and corners. All pages are present but some are loose as binding has pulled away from the spine. The edges of the pages are gold gilt which has retained its brightness. The album closes with two decorative gold colored metal clasps which are still firmly attached. Inside is a decorative page in red and gold ink which reads, “HARDING’S UNIVERSAL PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM, PHILADELPHIA. WILLIAM W. HARDING 326 CHESNUT ST.”. Reverse of this page is also marked in red and gold ink with, “HARDING’S PATENT PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM PATENTED MARCH 8TH, 1853. EXTENDED 1868. MAY 14, 1861.”. Following this is an index page which has not been written on.

Album contains 38 images. There are a variety of men, women and children of all ages. Many of the pages have names written on the borders. Men are in civilian attire. There are individuals as well as families posing together. Enclosed are five original CDV envelopes from photographers and a calling card.

Backmark locations include Des Moines & Davenport, IA, and in New York, Rochester, Brockport, Ogdensburg, Cape Vincent, Watertown & Utica.

Album measures approx. 6” x 5” x 2 ¾”.

This is a great album for a collector of civilian images.
