Cabinet card with photograph at center of a black & white cat sitting up on its hind legs. Caption on the mount reads, “And the Cat came back. / So Do / Patrons of the Popular / Photographers, / Seeley & Warnock 320 Main St. & 58 State St. BRIDGEPORT, CONN.” Reverse is blank. Overall very fine condition; minor light scattered soiling.
Introduced in mid-1860s, the cabinet card gradually superseded the smaller carte de visite format. The front of the card is usually printed or embossed with the photographer’s details, and the back of the cabinet card is often printed with elaborate designs. Most popular from the 1870’s – 1890’s, the were produced until WWI. [ld]
