Cabinet card size is approx. 4 ¼” x 6 ½” and is of heavy ivory stock. Reverse has a hand inscribed identification, “LIEUT. TOTTEN” as well as the photographer’s imprint which reads, “ESTABLISHED 1850, J.L. LOVELL PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHER, GALLERY AND STUDIO, AMHERST, MASS”.
Image shows a three-quarter seated view of a bearded soldier wearing a dark colored, double breasted frock coat with shoulder boards and light colored trousers. His plumed hat is sitting on the table by his side, and his hand rests on his sword.
Contrast is very good and image is clear. Edges have light wear and surface dirt. [sm]
