Post-war bust view wearing a Civil War period hat, a military style vest with civilian buttons, and a 4 button sack coat. Printed on the bottom border of the mount is, “GEO. C. H. DEETS, Co. E”. No photographer’s mark. Period ink inscription on reverse: “Geo. C H Deets / Co E / Gilsum / N.H.”

Overall good condition; damage at upper left corner, crease at upper right corner. Soiling/staining along lower edge.

Born in Uxbridge, MA, Deets was a 19 year old farmer residing in Gilsum, NH when  he enlisted on 8/20/62 as a Private. On 8/21/62 he mustered into Co. E, 2nd NH Infantry. Discharged for disability on 3/2/63 at Concord, NH. On 8/24/64 he mustered into co. G, 4th Massachusetts Heavy Artillery. Mustered out on 6/17/65 at Washington, D.C. Returned to farming in Gilsum after the war. At some point, the widower became a resident of the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in Marion, IN. Deets died of a cerebral hemorrhage on 4/2/1904 and is buried in Marion National Cemetery. [ld]
