Image shows a young soldier standing at the position of “ATTENTION.” He wears a dark pullover shirt with a 3 button placket and two breast pockets with buttons, light trousers and knee-high leggings. At his waist is a dark web Model 1894 cartridge belt with loops holding ammunition and on his head is a campaign hat with “16” over the Company letter “D.” At his side is his Krag rifle with sling.

Behind the soldier is a wonderful painted backdrop of a large seacoast gun in a fort with a second gun in the background.

There is no photographer’s mark.

Condition is very good.

During the Spanish-American War the 16th Infantry participated in the capture of San Juan Hill as part of the V Corps and then fought in 27 engagements during the Philippine Insurrection.  [ad]
